POP-UPS IN NYC!!
New York is full of exciting opportunities you can’t find anywhere else. Obviously, there are some long-standing attractions like Central Park or the Grand Bazaar on the UWS (Upper West Side). However, like the nature of the city, attractions come-and-go, mirroring the fast-paced lifestyle you have sought out by coming to study at NYU. Some of these attractions are as brief as a 10 second instagram story: pop-up shops/sample sales.
As someone who has always wondered how to find these pop-ups in ways other than stumbling upon them accidentally, I hope the following list gives you a better sense of where to find some of these events with free samples and (sometimes) celebrity meetups!
NYCForFree
‘NYC for Free’ is both a website and an instagram account that gives you daily and weekly updates on what’s going on in New York City for free or for a huge discount! Look out for free deals for coffee or boba, or maybe even free concerts (like the Global Citizen Festival this past weekend)! If you’re not an avid instagram user (like me), I would recommend turning on your notifications for this account because the amount of deals is insane. 🔔

Pickle
Although not directly a sample sale, Pickle is a great website/app for finding cheap clothes rentals when you need a quick find! Whether it’s for a birthday dinner or a concert, if you don’t want to spend money on purchasing a one-time piece, Pickle is great! Just sign up on the app and find someone in the NYC area who has posted an item for rental. Alternatively, you can go to their store at 21 8th Ave, New York, NY 10014. And best yet, you can even rent out your own clothes if you’re hoping to make some money! 🎉
Average Socialite
Average Socialite is another great website and instagram account for events happening in the area. This site focuses more on events that are happening rather than sales, so this is the great place if you’re looking for some of those unique events that only happen in big cities like NYC. For example, they recently posted about Greg’s Great Pumpkin Patch happening in Brooklyn to celebrate the spooky season. 🎃

Eclipse Sample Sale
A little bit less known, Eclipse is great at telling you when sample sales are happening around the city and they also host a few ones of their own! Feel free to check them out for giveaways or sample sales with lesser-known brands but great quality clothes. They are in southern California and NYC primarily, so make sure you’re looking at the right location! 🌙

Tiktok
This is a more general option, but TikTok is a great option when looking for affordable sample sales + pop up shops in the area! Find a ton of pop up shops for beauty, luxury, or even one-time adventures! My favorite one this past week was a company called Brunch having a one-time opportunity to write personalized love-letters on an old typewriter! ♥️ Feel free to just search up #popupsnyc in the search bar to find some good options!
