Halloween Bucket List: Things to do in NYC!

As Halloween approaches, you may be busy planning costumes or studying for midterms. However, it is always worth setting aside time to enjoy the season. If you’re like me, you want to make the most out of Halloween but don’t always plan ahead. No worries—here is a list of fun Halloween activities in and near NYC!

1. Village Halloween Parade: An annual parade with thousands of participants in creative costumes. This year’s theme is “Meow” and is the 51st annual parade.

Where: Starts at Canal St. and 6th Avenue and goes up 6th Avenue to 15th Street on 6th Avenue

When: 7-11 PM on October 31st

2. Pumpkin Picking: Pick a pumpkin for free as a part of Governor Island’s annual pumpkin patch and Fall festival! Make sure to dress up and trick-or-treating will be taking place at the Nolan Park historical houses on both days.

Where: Pumpkin Point (Governor’s Island)

When: Octo­ber 26 & 27, 2024, from 10 am to 5 pm

3. Haunted House: Check out one of NYC’s many haunted houses. Be ready to scream! 

Where: Halloween House at Oculus, Bayville Scream Park, Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Haunted House

When: Now and throughout October/November!

4. Boo at the Zoo: An annual event that takes place at the Bronx Zoo, featuring a pumpkin trail, costume parades, and spooky exhibits.

Where: Bronx Zoo

When: Saturdays & Sundays, September 28th to October 27th

5. Sleepy Hollow: This one has been on my personal bucket list, and I’m planning to go this year! Just an hour's train ride from the city, Sleepy Hollow—famous for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow—offers haunted hayrides, farmers markets, live music, street fairs, a Halloween 10K run, and the Headless Horseman.

Where: Sleepy Hollow, NY

When: Throughout October!
