Hidden study spaces

BY TIFFANY HO

Happy Finals Season! I hope everyone’s studying has been going well, and I’m sure you’ll all do amazing. It’s super important to get good rest, eat well, and take care of yourself during this stressful time. That way, you’re productive when you sit down to study, which leads to another very important point: make sure you find a study location that works for you. Maybe you’re one of the swarms of people at Bobst, or perhaps you’re in your room studying alone. But if you’re anything like me, it’s easy to be unmotivated and distracted, so here are a bunch of lowkey study locations that I’ve personally visited that will boost your productivity. Good luck!

New York Public Library - Stephen A. Schwarzman Building

This one may be one of the most iconic locations on this list, but the gem of the building lies on the third floor: the Rose Main Reading Room. It’s easy to get absorbed in your work here, as books line the shelves around you, and the high ceilings are adorned with art.

Elevated Acre

Elevated Acre is a hidden away park and lawn overlooking the East River. It’s great for a picnic study session or if you want to sit and feel the breeze of the wind on your skin as you study.

PUBLIC Hotel

PUBLIC Hotel is a gorgeous Lower East Side location. Once you make your way up their escalator, they have a brightly lit open seating lounge area, and you’ll be surrounded by others trying to get some work done.

Brookfield Place

This one isn’t the most obvious choice, as it is a mall, but there is so much seating within it that you really can’t go wrong. You could have a quiet setting or one with a bit more background noise. Even better, there is a food court and indoor palm trees.

Roxy Hotel

If you like a darker aesthetic, The Roxy Hotel is for you. Their lobby is filled with gorgeous seating and dimmed lighting, perfect for you to open up your laptop and get your work done.

Ole & Steen

For my coffee shop lovers, this is the absolute best location. I’m personally not a coffee drinker, but their chai is fantastic. They have multiple locations around the city, but my favorite is the one next to Bryant Park, where you can watch the bustle of the city while also doing your work.

I hope you visit some of these lowkey study locations! Happy studying and good luck on your finals!
