Best Café Study Spots Near Campus

BY ELENA HUANG

Yes, Bobst, Sosnoff, and the 3rd Floor Lounge are great! But let's be real, finding the right study environment can be a challenge, especially when studying in these places become monotonous. Fortunately, Greenwich Village is home to numerous cafes that offer a cozy atmosphere for students to study, snack, and relax. Here are some of my favorite cafes around NYU that provide an ideal space to hit the books (or Excel charts):

With four locations around NYU, Think Coffee is designed to be a comfortable and welcoming space for customers. With individual seating in the front and larger tables in the back, it's a versatile study area for both individual and group work. They serve great coffee and a variety of light bites and pastries. My go-to location is the one on Mercer, located just a few blocks from

campus.

248 Mercer St, 1 Bleecker St, 123 4th Ave, 471 Broadway

While Starbucks Reserve locations can be a bit pricier than regular Starbucks, it's a great option for students who want to study in a unique and comfortable environment. Because of the fast Wi-Fi, variety of seating options (including communal tables for group work), quality coffee, and amazing atmosphere, the West Village Starbucks Reserve is one of my favorite places to study.

1 7th Ave

Just a few blocks from NYU, Amano Café is a quiet and peaceful space for customers, making it an ideal spot for studying. Because there are comfortable seating options, including couches, armchairs, and tables, I come here when I want to study for longer periods of time.

172 West 4th St

A popular spot for coffee lovers, the cafe offers a variety of drinks and baked goods, including gluten-free and vegan options. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the cafe is spacious with plenty of seating. Stumptown is an ideal spot for those who prefer a quieter study environment.

30 W 8th St

A coffee chain with multiple locations around NYU, including the one on Lafayette Street, the cafe offers a minimalist, industrial-chic vibe and delicious coffee. They have a variety of seating options, including communal tables, bar seating, and cozy nooks. La Colombe is a great place to study solo or with a group of classmates.

400 Lafayette St, 95 E Houston St

This unique cafe is located on Crosby Street and offers a quiet, cozy atmosphere for studying. It’s run by the non-profit Housing Works and serves coffee, tea, and light bites. Students can enjoy a comfortable seat while surrounded by books and a serene atmosphere. The profits from the cafe go to supporting Housing Works' mission of ending homelessness and AIDS.

126 Crosby St

It’s so easy to fall into a routine of studying in the same areas every day. With midterms coming up, if you’re getting tired of grinding at NYU and you’re looking for a change of scenery, visit (or re-visit) one of these cafés! Good luck!
